Building Multicultural LGBT Organizations for the 21st Century

The LGBT Multicultural Diversity Project is a collaborative project offered by Alma Soongi Beck and Terry Berman (www.terryberman.com).

The goal of the Multicultural Diversity Project is to support LGBT Organizations by providing training and organizational development in efforts to increase inclusiveness, competency and understanding of cultural and racial differences by:

  • Building an increased awareness about our conscious and unconscious attitudes and beliefs about ourselves and other groups;
  • Learning tools for understanding the intersection between race and other isms including homophobia;
  • Identifying the function and dysfunctional behaviors that either increase or decrease our effectiveness in building authentic relationships across differences within the LGBT community.

If your organization is looking for opportunities to work with the Multicultural Diversity Project, you can work with us to:

  • Conduct a Building Multicultural LGBT Organizations Workshop
    • With the staff, board and/or key volunteers of your organization; or
    • In collaboration with other LGBT organizations.
  • Conduct ongoing organizational development.

Content areas covered in the Multicultural LGBT Organizations Workshops can include:

  • Guidelines for Effective Cross-Cultural Interactions.
  • Attitudes, Beliefs and Behaviors about Ourselves and Others.
  • Defining and Understanding the Dynamics of Oppression.
  • Cultural Workstyle Differences and its Impact on Inclusivity.
  • Tools for Identifying Dysfunctional Behaviors and Shifting Them.
  • Diversity, Personal Responsibility and Personal Accountability.
  • Strategizing a Multicultural Development Plan at all Levels (Personal, Interpersonal, Organizational and Cultural).
